This past weekend was the annual Southside Shootout Pro/Am, the 2nd stop of the United Skim Tour, hosted by Skim USA and Alley Oop. This event attracts some of the top skimboards because it is held at a beach that produces strong, powerful waves here on Delmarva. Some of the top competitors included current world champion Sam Stinnett (Laguna Beach, CA) two-time Southside Shootout winner Austin Keen (Laguna Beach, CA), Brazil’s Marco Casteluber, Mexico’s Gerado Valencia, as well as Dewey locals Max Wheeler and Sam McCoy.

“I mention the pro’s, they’re competing for money on the pro tour, but there is a lot more to it. It is also about inspiring the youth, and showing them that they can get to that level of the professionals.” says Jason Wilson, Alley-Oop owner and professional skimboarder.

Other events happening during this weekend included: An art show at Shorebreak Lodge (Rehoboth) Qué Pasa – Skim USA night (Dewey Beach) and Nappy Riddem, a reggae band from Washington, D.C at Hammerheads in Dewey Beach after the competition was complete. Couldn’t make it this year? Don’t worry, just know that you WON’T want to miss it next year!

We were proud to be the media sponsors for the second year in a row, for this great event. Be sure to watch the AE Report Wednesday night at 5PM and 11PM on WRDE to check out how awesome the event is for yourself.
